‘Just leave him alone’: Father of Tom Phillips calls for end to police hunt

Marokapa sighting news

Neville Phillips, the father of Tom Phillips, who has been on the run with his three children in the bush around Marokopa for three years, believes there is only one way to end the prolonged search: “Just leave [Tom] alone, walk away.”

Phillips and his children—Jayda, 11, Maverick, 9, and Ember, 8—have evaded police while drawing global attention, particularly after teenage hunters recently captured video of the family in camouflage with large backpacks on remote farmland.

Despite a recent intensive three-day search with military helicopter support, police announced they found “nothing further of significance” and suspended the operation.

Neville spoke legacy media outlet Stuff.co.nz, and labellied the search efforts as “a rort right from the beginning.”

He also criticised the police and the legacy media, accusing them of misrepresenting facts and suggesting the ongoing pursuit stems from a custody dispute.

“There’s two sides to the story, and only one is coming out,” he stated, highlighting his frustration with media coverage that he feels has been one-sided and misleading.

  1. Yeah, leave them alone. His children are getting a real “non corporate” education, where self reliance, independence and freedom reign.

  2. Getting involved with crap like Stuff was not a good idea. They will heighten anything for clicks to their pitiful website.
Thinking of the mentality of Stuff readers it makes perfect sense that it was teenagers who were involved sharing their video.

  3. I agree leave them alone. The kids could have escaped when they saw those people recently but they are clearly happy with their dad.

    What’s up with the mother?
