A popular Twitter user providing updates on the ground from the Parliament Protest claims Kiwibank froze his account.
FUBAR nz (@NzFubar) tweeted the shocking allegation today. No explanation for the action was given by the bank, which ‘unfroze’ them after FUBAR nz and supporters went to a branch to sort the matter out.
This week Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau controversially invoked emergency powers which give his government power to freeze the personal bank accounts of Ottawa protesters. To date the Ardern government has not indicated if similar measures will be used in New Zealand, nothwithstanding, the Kiwibank unilateral action, if deliberate, is concerning.

People power wins again ✊ sat in Kiwibank, word got around, people turned up to Kiwibank, a Wairua Tapu was given, we sat down in numbers and my accounts were unfrozen within two minutes. Still no reason given but accounts back up ✊❤️✊

ASB froze Billy Tk’s last week. Actually he went online to pay some bills and there were no accounts. They had just vanished. He then contacted them who said he no longer meets the criteria of the “terms and conditions” of the bank.
Luckily, they allowed him to take his funds elsewhere….
Here we go people, trudeau and Ardern are from the same school…. beware…
and if planning to do so, get your cash out of there soon as…. banks will shut if there is a run on their cash reserves which are only 10% of what they have loaned out….
