A 6-year-old Auckland boy tragically died after complications from a routine tonsillectomy performed at Southern Cross hospital in Auckland.
Although the surgery was meant to be a simple day procedure, the child was kept in hospital for several days before being sent home.
Soon after, he experienced severe throat pain, vomited blood, collapsed, and stopped breathing. Despite being rushed to Starship children’s hospital, he was declared brain dead and passed away on Monday with his family by his side after life support was withdrawn.
Multiple investigations are now under way, including a coroner’s inquiry and reviews by Health New Zealand and Southern Cross Healthcare, as questions mount over what went wrong during the procedure.
Speaking to legacy media, Southern Cross Healthcare chief medical officer Erica Whineray Kelly said, “Our thoughts are with the child’s family and whānau during this incredibly sad and difficult time.
“Patient safety is always our highest priority, and we are supporting a review initiated by Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora to ensure we understand all factors involved.”

Very sad and the same private provider, we use. Now to the obvious point. Given the absurd levels of taxation in the country, why is our public healthcare not world class? It used to be fantastic once upon a time.
I’ll say it and keep saying it, if you vote mainstream, you are condemning yourself and others, to more incessant failure in public healthcare and many other things, beside. People should be able to rely on the public system for their care.
In the next (s) election, people need to vote fort he NZ Loyal Party, as their platform and health care policies will be a far different departure away from the current milked system.
Even private health insurance is no guarantee of proper health care- one worries that if one is over 50, and despite paying an average of $650 per month for SC Health insurance on just myself, who’s to say that I wouldn’t be snuffed-out on the table, or given a Covid-19 vaccine when under a General Anesthetic?

The Disabled, Autistic, Downs Syndrome, and the chronically depressed / bi-polar patients seem to have euthanasia being suggested to them in other nations (Canada, Netherlands, to name a couple…) . Almost all of our healthcare workers these days are imported from the 3rd world. So I guess you get what you pay for.

I have put-off operations with Southern Cross which require a General anesthetic, for fear of not waking-up being over 50, or having the Covid-19 vaccine administered while asleep on the operating table, or suffering a fatal ‘on the table’ episode that might be chemically-induced…with my life insurance not being paid out to my family in such an event…!
After Covid, and with medical services being generally hard to obtain now, I DON’T TRUST THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT, BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE!!!
My Southern Cross premium is close to $800 a month…other family members are $120 – $180 per month. Can’t help but wonder if I’m targeted via the Zionist PTB which run the Insurance Companies for higher premiums. My AA Life Insurance is also running about the same per month., so with both Health and Life Insurance Policies, I pay just under $2K per month!
Complaints to the Insurance Ombudsman (or any ‘Ombudsman, for that matter…) revealed no help and a deflection!
No Insurance Broker has ever returned my calls, either.
I’ll just say that the evidence is culpable of certain people being targeted for getting ripped-off, or deliberate ‘mistakes’ being made while in the operating theatre. with both chronic and acute conditions either overlooked, or deliberately exploited for a ‘dead-end’..!
Simple operations that have this outcome are surely questionable. I hope the family demands a Coroner-ordered inquest, and finds a good lawyer who can crash-thru the Masonic J3wdicial System and bring remedy and relief to the aggrieved family!
