A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder after arriving at the Manukau Police Station with a deceased child in his vehicle early Monday morning.
The man arrived at the station around 1 a.m. and spoke with police, prompting officers to discover the young child’s body in the car. Authorities quickly cordoned off the area and began an investigation. Photos from the scene show a vehicle parked outside the station, surrounded by police tape, as forensic teams worked at the site.
According to police, the man is known to the child and their family. He was taken into custody and will appear in the Manukau District Court later today on the murder charge.
A post-mortem examination and further inquiries are scheduled to take place over the coming days. Victim Support services have been made available to the child’s mother and family as they process the tragic event.
