49-year-old Eugene Robbemond from Whanganu tragically lost his life during a violent robbery in Cape Town, South Africa.
Visiting his parents, Robbemond intervened as a group of armed men accosted them outside their home after following them from a bank. In an act of bravery, he reportedly threw a sledgehammer at the attackers’ getaway car, prompting them to fatally shoot him.
He died in his father’s arms on the roadside.
The devastating incident has left his family and friends heartbroken, including his 16-year-old son and girlfriend in New Zealand.
Robbemond, a passionate engineer and beloved member of the Superstocks Teams Racing community, has been remembered as a kind-hearted and generous soul.
Tributes poured in from friends and racing teammates who admired his sense of humour, dedication, and compassion.
South African authorities have located the attackers’ vehicle. The manhunt continues.
