Plane crash in Kazakhstan leaves dozens dead

Kazakhstan plane crash news

A passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, killing dozens of the 67 people on board, with 25 survivors reported by the country’s emergency ministry.

The Embraer 190 aircraft, carrying 62 passengers and five crew members, was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, but was diverted due to fog.

Video verified by Reuters shows the plane descending at high speed with its landing gear down before erupting into a massive fireball during an apparent landing attempt.

The victims were primarily Azerbaijani nationals, alongside some passengers from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Despite the tragedy, Aktau Airport remains operational, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

  1. “There is no official statement that Azerbaijan Airlines flight J28243 was shot down, or shots fired at it, following a video shared on social media showing traces of shrapnel on the rear fuselage section of the aircraft,” Breaking Aviation News & Videos wrote on X. It took off from Baku at 03:55 UTC time and was flying to Grozny. The aircraft was exposed to strong GPS jamming which made the aircraft transmit bad ADS-B data. At 04:40 UTC we lost the ADS-B signal. At 06:07 UTC we picked up the ADS-B signal again before it crashed at 06:28 UTC.

  2. Heard that it was a bird strike. Those ‘shrapnel holes in the aft fuselage’ may have originated when the exhaust turbines disintegrated as the bird passed thru the engine.
Never sit near the ‘plane of rotation’ of the N1 front turbofan and the N3 exhaust turbines, or inline next to a propeller.

Demand that local airlines NEVER DEFER scheduled aircraft maintenance or a Service Bulletin, Immediate Inspection(s) or Airworthiness Directivem (AD’s).
