Police launch homicide investigation after man dies in Te Awamutu incident

A homicide investigation is underway in Te Awamutu after a man died following an overnight disorder incident on Te Rahu Road.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene near Picquet Road around 11:45 p.m. where they found the victim unconscious. Despite immediate medical efforts, the man tragically passed away shortly after police arrived.

A 27-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested at the scene without incident and are currently assisting police with the investigation.

Charges are being considered as officers work to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.

A scene examination is ongoing, with traffic management in place to divert vehicles from the area.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests and are urging anyone with relevant information to contact them using reference number 241016/0455.
