Police have announced a $100,000 reward and potential immunity from prosecution for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the 1985 murder of Arthur Easton.
Detective Inspector Warrick Adkin announced the offer at the Counties Manukau Police Station this morning, saying that justice for the Easton family remains a priority nearly four decades after the crime.
The appeal for information is supported by the Easton family, who receive regular updates on the case’s progress.
Adkin detailed the events of October 13, 1985, when an armed intruder broke into Easton’s Papakura home, resulting in a fatal altercation. The killer fled, leaving behind crucial evidence, yet remains unidentified to this day.
The appeal follows Police Commissioner Andrew Coster’s apology to Alan Hall and his family for Hall’s wrongful conviction in the case, which led to charges against three officials involved in the original investigation and trial.
