Fatality following water-related incident, Avalon, Lower Hutt
Police can confirm that a child has died in a water-related incident at Avalon Park, Lower Hutt yesterday evening.
Emergency services were called to Avalon Park at around 8.10pm after a child was retrieved, unresponsive, from a body of water.
CPR was undertaken but sadly, the child could not be resuscitated.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
Fatal crash, Pukekawa
One person has died after a motorcycle crash on Morrison Road, Pukekawa overnight.
The crash was reported to emergency services at 5.35am today.
There do not appear to have been any other vehicles involved in the crash.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way.
Waikato River search
At 7.45pm yesterday, Police were advised that a man had jumped off Pukete Bridge into the Waikato River, and could not be found after only briefly resurfacing.
Police and FENZ undertook an extensive search of the water and riverbank last night, however did not locate the man.
LandSAR staff will be deployed again this morning to conduct a riverbank search, and other SAR staff will deploy in a boat again to search the area of the river where the man was seen to enter the water.
Fatal crash, SH3, Pembroke
One person has died following a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 3 near Monmouth Road, Pembroke, Stratford District.
Emergency services responded to reports of the crash around 11pm last night.
One person was located deceased, and seven others were located in a moderate to serious condition.
The Serious Crash Unit has conducted a scene examination and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
The road was closed but has since reopened around 8:40am this morning.
Fatality following water related incident, Moutohora Island, Whakatāne
One person has died following a water related incident off the coast of Moutohora Island, Whakatāne, last night.
Emergency services responded to reports that a man had been recovered from the water unresponsive after jumping off the side of a boat around 9pm.
CPR was commenced on Moutohora Island, however efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Police Search and Rescue coordinated the response with Coastguard Whakatāne volunteers attending the scene and a helicopter transporting him to Tauranga Hospital.
The death isn’t being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner.
