New Zealand has suspended all poultry exports after detecting the “highly pathogenic” H7N6 bird flu at a Moeraki egg farm, Biosecurity Minister Andrew Hoggard announced.
The virus, likely introduced by wild waterfowl, infected 40,000 chickens in one shed, which will be culled starting Tuesday.
Biosecurity officials say the strain differs from the globally concerning H5N1 and warned of “the potential for mutation”.
While no other infections have been found, strict measures, including a 10km buffer zone, are in place.
The affected farm had a history of biosecurity issues, including a 2019 outbreak of Infectious Bursal Disease.
PM Christopher Luxon assured there are no safety concerns, citing proactive government planning against potential “bird flu threats” from Antarctic wildlife.

If Poultry exports have been ceased, then where is the recommended guidance for those planning to purchase poultry products within the country.
Should eggs now be hard boiled or soft poached? Is eggnog off the table?

After properly cooking I’d eat one myself, I wouldn’t be afraid of catching flu from a dead chicken lol.

Funny that here in Mexico where there are literally millions of chickens and eggs consumed daily there is no threat of bird flu. If there is, no one listens. I think the media are trying to push the shit but how would I know? I don’t watch the media it’s like an all day long tele novela.
