Destiny Church has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Kiwi values and standing against what it sees as political interference and the imposition of radical ideologies on the public.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon condemned the recent protests at Rainbow events, stating that they “crossed the line” and were “not the Kiwi way.”
However, supporters of the church argue Luxon’s comments reveal a concerning bias, as no police investigation has yet been initiated, and the real issue at hand—the use of taxpayer money to fund adult-themed entertainment for children—remains unaddressed.
Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki took to X to respond, making it clear that the organisation will not be intimidated by the PM’s comments.
Speaking in front of legacy media today, Luxon said, “There is a broader question at play which we have said that we would look at in due course around the registration – you know charities and their charitable status, therefore their tax treatment as a consequence … will form part of the important piece of work.”
“We are NOT scared of Luxon and his weak threats. But he is scared of us! We will not back down,” Tamaki wrote. He also criticised the government’s apparent attempt to control the church by threatening its charitable status, calling it “political interference, plain and simple.”
The crux of the debate centres on the funding of drag queen events for children, including taxpayer money being used to promote R18+ performers on public platforms, such as a government-funded children’s TV show. The church has long championed the protection of traditional family values and has consistently opposed what it sees as the forced exposure of children to inappropriate content.
“Enough is enough!” Tamaki declared.
“Ratepayers and taxpayers’ money is being used to fund adult entertainers for Kiwi kids. We are staying laser-focused on the real issue.”
