Several people were injured, with two in serious condition, following a boat sinking in the Ōreti River near Invercargill.
Emergency services responded quickly to the incident, which occurred around 10:30 a.m. near West Plains Rd. According to police, three passengers were aboard the vessel when it went down. Two passengers managed to rescue themselves and alert emergency responders, while the third person remained trapped in the river.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews arrived shortly before 11 a.m. and assisted in pulling the remaining individual from the water.
St John Ambulance transported two patients in serious condition and one in moderate condition to Kew Hospital for further treatment.
