Baby W’s father spoke to Liz Gunn of FreeNZ about the circumstances surrounding the previous use of blood.
NOTE: The Care of Children Act 2004 prohibits publication of particulars that may lead to the identification of Baby W.
Following on from a report in legacy media outlet Stuff.co.nz yesterday, revealing the use of blood, dad explained to Gunn ‘a tiny amount’ was used in a procedure. The interview with Gunn took place a week ago, and was presumably available for Stuff.co.nz journalists to reference before their one-sided report.
The procedure ultimately failed. He said the issue of blood was raised by medical staff for the first time at the 11th hour. The parents were assured there was only a ‘1 in 100 chance’ it would be required. With no other options available, Will’s mother eventually signed the consent form when medical staff threatened they would not do anything unless she did so.
