The video showed the man screaming in pain.
Graphic video of an arrest in the Auckland suburb of Hillsborough. Footage showed two officers and a dog attempting to subdue an alleged thief.
The man can be seen lying on his stomach as one officer tries to cuff him. Meanwhile the dog appears to be biting into his lower leg, causing the man to scream in pain. After some time goes by one of the officers finally pulls the dog off.
One officer also appears to kick the man.
Afterwards an officer is seen using a garden hose to clean what appeared to be a puddle of blood.
A police spokesperson told media the man had earlier fled from a property where officers had been sent to investigate a burglary. He had managed to evade police on a dirt bike until tracked by the Police Eagle Helicopter to a property in Hillsborough. It was there that he was confronted by the two officers and dog in the video. The man was in breach of bail and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was taken to hospital following the incident.
The spokesperson also said police will be looking into the actions of staff involved in the tracking and arrest of the alleged offender.
So a thief gets kicked and bitten. Good job.
Great result all around.
Sue the dog bro
Hear hear. Play with fire, you get burned.
This should be SOP and it was a black dog too, no bias.
