Wellington bus lane camera nets $221K+ in fines in just over a month

A new fixed bus lane camera on Riddiford Street, near Wellington Regional Hospital, issued 1,475 tickets totaling $221,250 in fines between December 9 and January 17, significantly outpacing nearby Adelaide Road’s $26,250 in fines.

Some drivers have claimed confusion over signage led to unintentional use of the lane.

While the Wellington City Council maintains that signage complies with regulations, critics speaking to state media, including Councillor Nureddin Abdurahman and AA spokesperson Dylan Thomsen, have called for a review to address the high infringement rates.

The council argues that enforcement encourages compliance, as shown by a decline in violations since the camera’s installation.

  1. Heres me thinking only children play make beleive.

This bunch of overspending idealogistst paint one lane of a busy public road that the public paid for to cause delays, burn more fuel, make more environmental fumes under the guise of saving the planet and over tax the people they claim to serve.

If local goverment takes too much money off citizens to pay for their unneeded expensive projects, all this does is reduce the amount of trade in the city. This is a time when trade is at an alltime low, people are going without enough food to provide for their famlies.

Another white wash i am aware of is the WCC have delayed the release of the new rateable value properties in Wellington city. Until 15 February 2025. Wellington home owners were supose to get the new RV’s 18 December 2024. The WCC have secretly objected to the massive $200 ,000 to $500,000 drop across the board when rates are expected to increase about 20%.

What right does the WCC have to tell quotable value what to value property at?

  2. Government are the enemy.

Most people are far too dim to realise this sadly. They’ll just keep on happily paying for their own enslavement.
