The Dig In At Marsden protest at Marsden Point Oil Refinery enters its seventh week soon, as another milestone was acknowledged on 30 May 2022.
That was the day the refinery turned 58. A group including ex-operators gathered to acknowledge the event.
On that day also, the boilers were shut down – the last piece of refining kit in New Zealand.
Organisers of Dig In At Marsden are asking New Zealanders ‘have you done enough?’
The New Zealand flag was seen flying upside down – a sign of distress, from a refinery structure.
‘I filled up with petrol today and my meter normally says 750kms for a full tank. Obviously its recalculated cause today it said only 650kms for a fill tank. So, its either burning more or its shit fuel. It’s a 72L petrol tank.’
