Despite looking set to build a decisive lead, India’s innings saw six batters out for a duck, marking the first time a team lost six wickets without scoring a run in Test history.
South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi took three crucial wickets to trigger India’s collapse.

In South Africa’s second innings, they ended the day at 62-3.
In a remarkable day of cricket 23 wickets fell in total, with both teams struggling to handle the ball’s bounce on a lively pitch.
South Africa’s highest scorer in the first innings was Kyle Verreynne with 15.
The day also marked the lowest Test total for South Africa since 1932. The match will resume on day two with South Africa still trailing by 36 runs.
South Africa have named a weakened squad for their upcoming Test series against the Black Caps, opting to feature their first-choice players in the domestic T20 competition instead.
