A major new report commissioned by the Helen Clark Foundation reveals that New Zealand is lagging behind Australia in nearly every measure of social cohesion, with Kiwis reporting lower happiness, financial satisfaction, and trust in institutions.
Speaking to state-funded media, co-author Shamubeel Eaqub warned that New Zealand’s growing societal fractures mirror early signs of polarisation seen in countries like the UK and US, and urges urgent action to prevent further division. The findings show alarming disparities, including food insecurity and declining trust in government, highlighting the need for national dialogue and community connection to “rebuild solidarity”.
“And to me, this is the transition from being cohesive to fractured to polarised. If we don’t do something, if we don’t act on the evidence in front of us, we will become similarly polarised.
“When that happens our politics will change quickly, our policies will change quickly and that will make it very difficult for businesses, communities, and for people to plan and live good lives.
“We need a society that works well, most of the time. We want conflict on the edges, not conflict that dominates every day.”

Kiwis falling behind aussies…… what a stupid statement.
In order to fall behind, you have to be ahead in the first place.
We have always been the poor cousin . Aunty Helen’s protege Cindy certainly made sure of that….. the most divisive bureaucrat this country has ever had.
Hmmm.
After her protege instituted some of the planet’s harshest Covid vaccine mandates for a product they knew failed to prevent infection and transmission, Aunty Helen gets all hand-wringy about divisions in our communities.
That is what it is, so yep, yep.
All by design, by the Judas goat masquerading as government.
I wonder if helen and cindy ever look in the mirror and see the monsters that they are.
If they miss that, let them walk down the street.
And all the little divisive sub-monsters, dividing Godzone for their own pathetic psychopathic delusions, including race-blaming insanity, will reap what they have sowed. In their own personal existences they are failures already, look at how they live and look at their disturbed mindsets.
Can therapy cure ideology?
Division is the sole fruit of globalist ideology, pumped by State media propaganda, and indoctrination and endless “treaty” spruiking on an industrial scale.
‘Racism’ has been institutionalised by government, from sickness to municipal authoritarianism, edukashon, to policing.
Now would seem a good time to join the burgeoning exodus from this impoverished little pimple on a gnats bottom.
People from New Zealand have been leaving to live and work in Australia since the 1960s in such numbers everyone knew the quip ‘will the last one turn out the lights’. I wish I had done it as well. My two sisters did and they were better off in every way – housing, job security, economic security, education for their children, and health.
Plenty of New Zealand men went to the mines in Australia for two or three years to make enough money to get a head start in New Zealand. There was no chance of ever getting a head start here.
Then immigrants who had tried to get into Australia but were denied applied to New Zealand, got in, got citizenship and left practically the next day for Australia. We will eventually lose our Special Visa 444 due to it being abused in this way. That will be a very bad day for us.
Shamubeel Eaqub warned that New Zealand’s growing societal fractures mirror early signs of polarisation seen in countries like the UK and US, and urges urgent action to prevent further division – dialogue and community blah blah blah – connection to “rebuild solidarity”. blah blah blah. Are you an economist or a behaviourist?
What about scrubbing some of the governmental procedures which have led to these fractures? Globalisation is dead.. Get with the new programme.
We all know what caused the genesis of lack of trust in institutions and so called “experts”. And when trust has gone it ain’t coming back soon. Helen Clark and her Labour cronies should take a look in the mirror instead of wasting time and money commissioning a report.
Ummmm I wonder whats causing the lack of social cohesion. Nothing to do with jab mandates or identity politics, or the mainstream media continually feeding us lies. I’m totally baffled.
Why haven’t these very same experts invented their “vaccine” to give us more social cohesion, wellbeing, and trust in institutions like the Helen Clark Foundations? And if we aren’t interested, their lockdowns and mandates can make us interested. Don’t these experts ever learn?
It takes a lifetime to build trust.
And only a few minutes to destroy it.
Experience proves that trustworthy people and trustworthy institutions don’t lose trust and never have cause to lament any loss of trust.
Those who wonder about fragmenting social cohesion need to discover honesty.
When Helen tells us the Cindy’s COVID scandemic crimes are 100 percent to blame, I might listen to her. BTW, who paid for that report?
“We need a society that works well, most of the time. We want conflict on the edges, not conflict that dominates every day.”
Got the wind up, about a possible civil war or revolution…..not impossible, government here is weak with limited police and military, compared to many nations.
Maybe they might want to try listening, for a change and acting upon people’s wishes rather than their own greed and selfish ambition??
Need to look deeper into how government agencies and institutions in NZ are constructed and maintained. Their relationships with the people no longer command our respect nor trust. We instead demand more verifiable accountability from government and dislike their entrenched double standards.
Despite the repeated failures of mainstream media to socially engineer and misinform us, we are very aware of events and developments and naturally find alignments along issues we determine are important irrespective of narratives propagated by government and their incompetent propagandists. ie we think independently and don’t need useless mainstream media to think for us or purport to “fact-check” for us. We have become increasingly sceptical of the hypocrisy and selective moral outrage pushed at us by entrenched ideological bias.
And we understand freedom and democracy better than those institutions which have squandered our trust.
Those who remain in New Zealand are condusive to the following;
1. Living off grid- w/ a water source, wind turbine, solar panels and wood-burning stoves / woodburner heat source-
2. Farming one’s own food sustenance-
3. Own their land w/ no mortgage or securities attached to the same-
4. Minimising the use of ‘money’ otherwise required in vast quantities in a normal socio-economic profile-
5. Is away from civilisation, and preferrably deep in the Bush somewhere-
6. Have minimum use of a vehicle, thus holding down cost, wear & tear repair expenses.
