Mody Maor, after two successful seasons with the New Zealand Breakers, where he led the team to a grand final and a playoff appearance, has resigned from his position as head coach to take up a new challenge in Asia.
Maor, who joined the Breakers as an assistant coach in 2019, leaves with a year remaining on his contract but with the full support of the club’s management and players. Chief executive Lisa Edser praised Maor’s global reputation and his deep connection with the team, noting his personal reasons for the move and promising a thorough search for his successor.
ESPN reports that Maor is finalising a deal to coach Nagasaki Velca in Japan’s Basketball League, marking a significant career move.
