New Zealand Rugby (NZR) Chairperson Dame Patsy Reddy has announced she will not seek reappointment to the NZR Board, following the partial implementation of an independent review on governance structures.
Earlier this year, Reddy made it clear she would resign if the recommendations of the governance review were not fully adopted. Although some changes have been made, the final reforms fell short of her expectations, leading to her decision to step down at the end of the year.
Despite her departure, Reddy said she was satisfied with the progress achieved so far, stating, “NZR has a vital role in advancing rugby both domestically and globally. It has been an honour to chair the board. Moving forward, ensuring the integrity of the appointments process and safeguarding NZR’s ongoing business are my top priorities until the end of my term.”
Reddy, along with other departing leaders like Dame Farah Palmer and NZR President Matthew Cooper, will collaborate with the Stakeholder Panel to establish the Appointments and Remunerations Panel (ARP). This six-person panel is tasked with selecting nine members for the new NZR Board. The ARP will conduct shortlisting, interviews, and final selections, with the appointees to be ratified by NZR’s voting members in early December.
The new governance framework, approved at a Special General Meeting in May 2024, is set to be finalised by the end of the year, with the new board in place and Reddy concluding her term at that time.
The recruitment process closes on October 20, and the ARP is expected to be fully operational within the next two weeks.
