Rooney urged to learn from Guardiola after Plymouth sacking

Wayne Rooney news

Following his dismissal from Plymouth Argyle after a difficult season, Wayne Rooney has been urged by former footballer Don Goodman to consider a coaching role at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, despite his Manchester United legacy.

Goodman believes Rooney could benefit from the mentorship, similar to Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca, though he acknowledges such a move would spark heated debate and controversy.

Rooney’s managerial career has been marked by challenging roles, including stints at Derby County, D.C. United, and Birmingham, all marred by external difficulties.

Goodman expressed sympathy for Rooney, highlighting Plymouth’s struggles due to limited resources and a poor record under his leadership, particularly away games. While Rooney may need time away from management, Goodman speculates that he could make a return as an assistant coach or pundit, but a top-tier managerial role may be out of reach for now.
