Discredited ‘Russian hoax’ legacy media journalist threatens Musk

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has reignited claims that Elon Musk’s ties to Russia pose a “national security threat”, citing a recent Wall Street Journal report alleging Musk communicated with Russian President Vladimir Putin and restricted Starlink access for Ukraine’s military.

Both Musk and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov have dismissed these claims as unfounded fake news, with Musk asserting that Starlink has been crucial to Ukraine’s front-line communications, countering Russia’s efforts to disrupt connectivity.

Despite denials, Maddow presented the Journal’s claims as fact on her election-day show, arguing that Musk’s alleged connections to “America’s worst enemy” could disqualify him from holding key U.S. government contracts, including with NASA and the Department of Defense.

Maddow was an influential pusher of the ‘Russian hoax’ misinformation during Trump’s first run for president in 2016.

She further speculated that government agencies may need to rethink their reliance on Musk’s companies due to these unsubstantiated allegations.

Musk, in response, called Maddow’s comments “frothing-at-the-mouth crazy” and suggested her accusations stem from his support for Donald Trump. Musk noted the political pressure he’s faced, including calls from Democrats to rescind his government contracts and potentially deport him.
