Gaza residents endure worsening conditions as Israel blocks temporary shelters

After 15 months of war and with 70% of Gaza’s buildings destroyed, displaced civilians face worsening conditions, living in flooded tents amid winter rains.

As part of a ceasefire agreement, Israel had approved the entry of 60,000 mobile homes and 200,000 tents, but only 20,000 tents have arrived, with no temporary homes allowed in.

Residents like Umm Mohammed Selemy from northern Gaza describe being drenched in rain and sewage, with children falling ill due to the unsanitary conditions.

Abed Alkareem Saida, another resident, said that tents are unsuitable for long-term living, lacking protection from the cold and lacking basic sanitation. He stressed that mobile homes would provide warmth, safety, and essential facilities, alleviating some of the severe hardships Gazans continue to endure.

The apparent refusal by Netanyahu to approve the entry of the equipment to the Strip comes as he reportedly wants to extend the ongoing first phase of the deal beyond the designated 42 days, which are set to end on March 1, and secure the freedom of more hostages as part of phase one, including more hostages Israel now knows are in poor health.

  1. Not to mention the 500,000 plus dead Palestinians lying beneath that rubble. Trump let the cat out of the bag when he said he wanted to relocate 1.5 to 1.7 million remaining Palestinians in Gaza. Before the genocide, the population of Gaza was 2.4 million.

  2. So what would you do if one of your family members had been murdered on 7.10.23 or taken captive, tortured mercilessly, without medical assistance and even killed in captivity? I think many just rely on MSM for their “facts” and have no idea of the true picture, like the Hamas regime denying aid and food to their own people and even killing them for approaching the aid trucks… If Hamas remain in power, the people in the region will likely see little if any of the aid that arrives. The truth is often too appalling to be true!!

    • The Israeli captives were/are tortured and killed in captivity by Israel. They have been dropping 2000lb bombs on Gaza. They didn’t negotiate their release for 15 months.

The IDF killed lots of Israelis on October 7 too. All those cars destroyed by hellfire missiles, and residences by tank shells. Hamas was not capable of inflicting that damage.
