Former Maharashtra minister and senior politician Baba Siddique, 66, was shot dead in Mumbai near his son’s office by gunmen, with two suspects arrested and a third being sought.
Siddique, who recently defected from Congress to join the National Congress Party (NCP), was known for his political influence and connections to Bollywood stars.
The attack occurred during heightened security for a major Hindu festival, prompting opposition criticism of the government’s handling of security.
While the motive remains unclear, the suspects reportedly have links to notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, raising concerns over organised crime involvement.
