The former British prime minister claimed the Russian president had made the comments in a telephone call last February.
Allegations that Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened then-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson with a missile strike are “a lie,” Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday. Johnson’s accusations have emerged in a new BBC documentary about the crisis in Ukraine.
Recalling a telephone call with Putin on February 2, 2022, just over three weeks before tensions over Ukraine escalated into full military action, Johnson claimed the Russian leader “threatened me at one point.”
“He said, ‘Boris, I don’t want to hurt you but, with a missile, it would only take a minute’ or something like that… jolly,” the former PM told the British broadcaster.
“There were no missile threats,” Peskov told reporters on Monday. “When he explained challenges to the security of the Russian Federation, President Putin remarked that if Ukraine joins NATO, the potential deployment of NATO or American missiles at our borders would mean that any missile could reach Moscow in mere minutes.”
The Russian official wondered if Johnson had lied deliberately or “simply didn’t understand what President Putin was talking about.” If the latter is true, people should be concerned for Johnson, Peskov added.
Putin has publicly voiced Russian concerns over NATO infrastructure in Ukraine and other parts of Eastern Europe for decades. Russia began military operations against Ukraine after failing to get security guarantees from Washington, which would have rolled back the deployment of NATO assets in Eastern Europe and suspended its expansion in the region. The US dismissed Moscow’s concerns and claimed that Ukraine was free to seek membership as a sovereign nation.
Shock horror!! Boris Johnson is a prodigious liar even by UK standards. He has no concept of truth.
Conversely Putin has shown great restraint as the West and Ukraine by its own public admissions treated the Minsk agreement and the negotiations for peace in Turkey with absolute distain. Treachery breeds mistrust and reaps contempt. So as the west draws near to request actual peace to stop the slaughter of Ukrainian troops, Russia will ignore the call until such time as it has done what it needs to secure its own position and de-nazified the Ukraine.
Y’know Putin and I we might not see eye to eye on one or two things but I like how he is sorting out a whole bunch of a****oles all in one go.
I just can’t fathom the audacity that Washington feels it has the fundamental right to instrument a leadership change for Russia. By their design. And this is what they do. Colour revolution.
What ever Putin may be he intends to maintain his position and keep those that wish to get their greedy little hands on the goods far away. Respect for that.
There are some Russians quite dissatisfied with Putin they believe in the West, the West’s media and their Comedian Zelensky. They have been defecting to the US entering from the southern border. I think it will be hard for them. These are people with an extremely high level of education. phds. However I don’t think the majority of Russia is ready to accept change. He’s on the right path for the main population who want stability and their traditional values. Something we all would like right now a little bit of cozy stability with some nourishing for the soul values.
At the moment all these world leaders look like a bunch of fools. Absolute idiots. I am so looking forward to the day they all dry up.
Interested to see what happens with Jordan Petersen.
