Scores buried following landslide in China

The large landslide took place in Zhaotong city in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan.

At least 47 people have been buried. The incident occurred on Monday morning at 05:51 local time. Rescue efforts are currently underway in challenging sub-zero temperatures. The extent of casualties is still uncertain.

Local media footage shows rescue teams working amidst the ruins of collapsed buildings and homes. In response to the disaster, more than 500 people have been evacuated from the area. This information was reported by People’s Daily.

China’s state broadcaster CCTV has indicated that some of the affected households are trapped under the rubble. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the landslide.
