The 23 year old was having a night out with friends when tragedy struck.
Police are trying to piece together the events of Boxing Day evening in the Crane nightclub, Digbeth. They were called to the venue just before 11.45pm to find the badly injured Fisher. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful and he died 30 minutes later.
Patrons blamed lax security at the door, where searches carried out on those entering were either too brief or non-existent.
An 18 year old from Wolverhampton, who did not wished to be named said, ‘disaster waiting to happen’ because the security searches were poor and ‘anyone could have brought anything in.’
Another witness, 23 year old Sydnee Power from Birmingham said the venue was full of ‘groups of lads looking for trouble. As soon as me and my friends walked in, we got a very weird vibe and the atmosphere wasn’t good,’ she told media.
Police were continuing to investigate, and were working closely with nightclub management. CCTV footage of the night was being reviewed. Meanwhile the nightclub’s New Years Eve party has been cancelled.
Fisher was a semi-professional footballer for Stratford Town FC, and was also a football coach at Woodrow First School in Redditch.
