Anheuser-Busch will make 400 corporate workers redundant due to falling sales.
It was once the most popular beer in America. But revenues have slumped following a disasterous marketing campaign featuring trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
The lay offs won’t impact frontline staff, a spokesperson for the company told the Wall Street Journal. Hardest hit will be marketing roles.
In a statement CEO Brendan Whitworth said, ‘While we never take these decisions lightly, we want to ensure that our organization continues to be set for future long-term success.’
It’s not clear if the marketing boss reponsible for the Mulvaney campaign, Alissa Heinerscheid, is still at the company. Conflicting reports last month said she had been fired, while others said she had not.
The Mulvaney campaign was criticised for sacrificing Bud Light’s traditional consumer base in the name of inclusivity. Corporate data recently released by iNeilsen showed a drop of nearly 30% on sales from a year ago.
