Christchurch man found guilty of murdering infant daughter

Michael Topp news

Michael John Topp has been convicted of murdering his baby daughter after a trial at the High Court in Christchurch.

Topp inflicted at least 31 fractures and two severe head injuries on the infant before delivering the fatal assault.

The jury found Topp guilty of murder and two charges of grievous bodily harm with intent, acquitting him on a fourth charge.

Topp, who had admitted to shaking the baby but denied intending to kill her, will be sentenced on July 16.

Experts testified that the baby was a victim of repeated trauma, leading to her death days after suffering a catastrophic head injury.

  1. I find this unthinkable…I’d never dream of doing this to my child……..I doubt I could live with myself, honestly………………..

  2. A life sentence and the judge will decide how long he must spend in prison before he’s eligible for parole.

    Life sentence… parole… 🤔
