A Tauranga Boys’ College teacher, Pinky Green, who resigned in 1988 following allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards a student, had been the focus of multiple complaints stretching as far back as the 1960s.
The recent push for an independent inquiry by Glenn Marshall, the former student whose complaint eventually led to Green’s resignation, aims to scrutinise the school’s response to the allegations, according to a report in state media.
Although Green passed away more than two years ago, Marshall and other victims believe that the school failed to adequately address the persistent reports of Green’s misconduct.
In 1988, retired police sergeant Russell Christie investigated the complaints against Green, discovering numerous allegations over several decades, including propositions to students for indecent activities. Despite the serious concerns Green was allowed to retire with his pension and reputation seemingly unaffected, prompting criticism of the school’s handling of the situation.
Marshall has been vocal in criticising the school’s apparent strategy of quietly resolving the matter without seeking justice for the victims.
The school maintains that their handling of the 1988 complaint was proper, citing a recent review by a specialist in historical abuse cases that labelled the investigation “exemplary.”
However, the ongoing emergence of additional victims and public apologies issued by the school suggest a pattern of behaviour that was inadequately addressed.
Current principal Andrew Turner told state media the school has since revised its policies to better protect students, yet the demand for a more comprehensive investigation into the school’s past actions remains strong, fuelled by the school community’s desire for transparency and accountability.

After the mess at D@llw@^th, R@n#iora, and the ‘Schools up north’, why would anyone send their child to any type of organised pipeline to prison school that are now well documented as destroying a child’s ability to learn?
HOMESCHOOL! the results are by far much better.
