Raiders take nail-biting 20-18 win over Warriors

Raiders v Warriors NRL 2024 news

Canberra Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty made a triumphant return from injury, leading his team to a crucial 20-18 victory over the Warriors.

In a game riddled with errors from both sides, Fogarty’s precise kicking game proved challenging for the Warriors. Hudson Young scored an early double in the first half, but a try by Roger Tuivasa-Sheck just before halftime kept the Warriors in the contest, trailing 14-6 at the break.

The Warriors carried their momentum into the second half, with Kurt Capewell and Mitch Barnett—both fresh off State of Origin duty—scoring the first two tries after the break. Despite this surge, Fogarty’s control for the Raiders was pivotal. A deft kick from Kaeo Weekes set up the match-winning try, with Xavier Savage grounding the ball just before the dead-ball line.

The Warriors fought back with a strong run from Addin Fonua-Blake, narrowing the gap. However, their goal-kicking woes continued, landing only one of four conversions after losing both first-choice kickers Adam Pompey and Taine Tuaupiki in the first half.

Looking ahead, the Warriors will host the Tigers in the opening match of Round 21, while the Raiders will face the Rabbitohs at home to close the round.
