As Katy Perry prepares for her highly anticipated AFL Grand Final performance, controversy has emerged surrounding her setlist and rehearsals.
Perry’s practice at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has limited the Brisbane Lions to only one training session on the field, creating tension as they prepare to face the Sydney Swans. Additionally, the AFL reportedly pushed back against Perry’s desire to include songs from her new album, which has underperformed critically, leading to a compromise where she will perform one new track alongside four of her classic hits.
A fresh dispute arose over whether Perry would perform her 2013 hit “Roar,” a song associated with the Brisbane Lions.
Concerns about perceived bias prompted initial discussions to cut the song from her setlist.
However, in an interview with Melbourne radio, Perry seemingly reversed her decision, agreeing to perform the fan-favourite track. Lions players were unaware of the debate, with defender Jack Payne telling legacy media he hoped the song would be included.
Speculation also surrounds a rumoured surprise guest during Perry’s performance, with some expecting Australian pop star Tina Arena to join her on stage.
