Police have arrested a 24-year-old man following a violent assault on a woman in New Lynn on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. during a disorder outside a property on Portage Road.

Detective Senior Sergeant Adam Lough from Waitematā CIB stated that the woman was inside a vehicle when the assault took place. The male offender was reportedly attempting to retrieve a stolen vehicle but escalated the situation by carrying a knife and inflicting serious injury on the woman.

The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition, where she underwent surgery and is now stable.

Following an investigation, Police executed a search warrant in Henderson and took the suspect into custody without incident. The man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in Waitākere District Court.

Police also recovered the weapon, described as a “zombie” knife, used in the attack. Detective Senior Sergeant Lough emphasized the dangers of carrying such weapons, which are illegal and can lead to prosecution.

Authorities urge the public to avoid taking matters into their own hands and to call Police on 111 if assistance is needed. Further comments are limited as the case is now before the Court.

  1. Wait, what. So he was trying to get his car back from a criminal trying to steal it? I think he should be allowed to do this. Where were the police, why did we have that criminal woman on the streets? If the woman did not try and commit a crime, then this incident would not have happened. He is in the right, and she deserved it.

  2. These Zombie knives or machetes are prevalent in UK knife attacks which occur every hour sometimes more frequent
Recently a compensation scheme amnesty for ‘zombie’ knives and machetes of 10 pounds was offered
Its not hard to see where this all stems from and a lower socioeconomic troublesome ethnic element of society in NZ that can never be integrated that does not think for itself but is a product of the MSM and copy cat antics
