TVNZ holds staff-wide meeting as state broadcaster seeks $30m in savings

TVNZ has called a full staff meeting as it navigates efforts to secure $30 million in cost savings.

The state broadcaster has already cut several news and current affairs shows earlier this year in an attempt to curb expenses and boost revenue.

According to a report on RNZ, sources within TVNZ confirmed that staff received an invitation to a meeting on Monday from 1pm to 3pm to discuss proposed “structural changes” aimed at achieving the savings target.

The meeting is part of a consultation focused on how TVNZ plans to meet its $30 million goal and implement its Digital+ strategy. The proposals do not involve changes to individual roles at this stage.

In a statement, TVNZ noted that this consultation process is about strategic changes to realise savings and will not affect specific positions. TVNZ declined to comment further, prioritising internal communication with staff.

CEO Jodi O’Donnell stated in August that the broadcaster had sufficient funds to support its digital strategy over the next three years but would not issue a dividend. TVNZ recently reported an $85 million loss, a stark contrast to a $1.7 million profit the previous year, driven by a $62 million write-down in unspecified assets and a $39 million decline in revenue.

Earlier in the year, TVNZ took shows like Fair Go and its midday and late-night news bulletins off-air as part of its cost-cutting measures.

  1. I haven’t watched that TVNZ garbage for over 10 years.
Nothing they could do would get me back.
    We have alternatives now.

  2. The right thing to do would be for the state to shut down this indoctrination/propaganda, mocking bird media outlet down.
Of course our corporate state wont do this as they need this tool to control and direct our thinking and provide unending distractions, while the corporate state carries on fulfilling its nefarious agenda.

  3. Sack the lot of them and sell it off.
All they have ever done is spread propaganda for the govt. of the day. During the whole plandemic all it did was spread misinformation and disinformation. Think for yourself and stop watching fake news. No of the others are any better.

  4. That’s what yar get when you are the Rothschild’s deceiving mouthpiece. And you encourage people to have the injection.
