At the memorial service for Ethel Kennedy in Washington, Biden allegedly commented that Harris was “not as strong as me,” to which Obama reportedly agreed, saying, “We have time.” The exchange, captured on video without audio, was interpreted by forensic lip-reader Jeremy Freeman, although Harris was not explicitly named in the conversation.
Despite the Post’s report, Biden’s spokesman Andrew Bates dismissed the claims, suggesting the outlet was speculating about a private conversation.
An unnamed source close to Obama echoed the sentiment, calling the report “ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, some Democrats expressed concerns about Harris’ standing in the party, with one unnamed source saying she was “not a strong alternative” to Biden, who faces challenges over his age and cognitive ability.
Polling has shown Harris trailing Republican candidate Donald Trump in key battleground states, while this week betting markets surged in favour of a second Trump presidency.
