Sir Elton John’s Broadway production Tammy Faye is set to close on December 8, just weeks after opening, due to poor ticket sales and harsh reviews.
Despite a successful London debut in 2022, the £20 million musical based on the lives of televangelists Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker struggled to attract audiences at New York’s Palace Theatre, filling only 63% of its capacity and becoming Broadway’s lowest-grossing show.
Critics described the show as “bland” and “misguided,” leading to its abrupt closure after only 29 performances. The closure starkly contrasts the musical’s praised West End run, leaving fans and creators disappointed.
Horrible !! rather go to opera
