Teen’s testimony against ‘prominent professional’ alleges coercion on Grindr

Grindr Palmerston North news

A teenager who met a prominent professional on Grindr testified in the Palmerston North District Court that he feigned enjoyment during a sexual encounter to escape what he alleges was an assault.

The 17-year-old visited the man’s house in Manawatū after seeking conversation on the app, only to find himself, according to his testimony, in a situation where he was sexually and indecently assaulted despite his resistance. The teen’s strategy to pretend he was enjoying the activity allowed him to break free when the accused, who is on trial for ten charges related to this and another incident from 2007, loosened his grip.

The teen’s immediate reporting to the police was triggered by a disturbing comment made by the man about the teen looking cute in a school uniform, which left the teen feeling shocked and repulsed.

The accused, a respected figure in his profession whose identity is protected by court orders, maintains that he believed the encounter was consensual.

He claims the teen’s Grindr profile indicated he was 18, the app’s minimum age requirement, and thus thought the activities were mutual.

Following the incident, the man sent a text apologising if the teen felt uncomfortable, suggesting his intention was for “innocent fun.” His defense argues that there was no force used and that the scenario was misconstrued by the teen.

The judge-alone trial also addresses another accusation from 2007 involving a different underage individual, where the defense alleges an attempt at extortion.

The case continues.

  1. Professionals is what lawyers and Police call themselves. A respected figure, or senior role, where most esteemed in rank is a judicial appointment. Who can have their address concealed under the privacy act, and for what reason? A judge only trial serves to protect the identity of the accused, despite any reason to protect the 17 year old minor, young adult. It also serves to stack favour for those that work in the same system. Our justice system is their legal system where they protect their own. It is a cult utilising a lexicon with identical words to the english language but have a different meaning, it is called legalise. A secret society inviting many masonic initiates who feel at home concealing truth through cleaver spelling. Pedastry is nothing new in elite circles. It is however a key indicator of civilisation moral decline.

      • Is 16 years the age of consent? Seems to be an assumption NZ is now 18 like the US. Are there new laws?

Obviously meeting someone for a mutually good time. If things don’t go so well then best get out.

Not sure, but don’t really buy it, you might not of liked what happened but those are the risks.

There is a mantra, No means no. Did this person say ‘No, I don’t feel comfortable’? I’m afraid a lack of awareness is more to blame here. Chalk it up to experience sweetie.
