BBC-promoted rapper revealed as schoolboy’s killer

Jake Fahri news
Jimmy Mizen (L), Jake Fahri (R).

Jake Fahri a ‘drill rapper’ known as TEN and promoted by the BBC, has been revealed as the convicted killer of 16-year-old Jimmy Mizen in 2008.

Fahri, then 19, was sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally attacking Mizen with a glass dish during a bakery altercation in London.

Mizen tragically bled to death when Fahri hurled a large glass dish at him, which shattered upon impact with his chin, severing an artery in his neck and killing him just one day after his 16th birthday.

Released in 2023 after serving 14 years, the now 35-year-old raps about violent themes, with some lyrics appearing to reference the murder, in a hip-hop sub-genre known as ‘drill rap’.

Drill rap is known for its dark, trap-influenced beats and raw lyrics that often depict street life, including themes of violence and social struggles. Originating in Chicago and later evolving in the UK, drill music is controversial for its intense content and has been linked to debates about its influence on crime and youth culture.

While the BBC said the violent lyrics were not aired, Fahri’s music has been featured on their platforms.

The UK Ministry of Justice has launched an inquiry into Fahri’s lyrics.
