A woman has died, and thousands have been forced to flee as major floods continue to inundate northern Queensland.
Over 1,000mm of rain has fallen since Friday, with authorities warning of a “dangerous and life-threatening” situation as waters rise further in and around Townsville.
The worst flooding “in over 60 years” has left communities cut off, with homes submerged and roads impassable.
A rescue effort turned tragic when a dinghy capsized, claiming one life.
Evacuation centres are reaching capacity, power outages are widespread, and crocodile sightings add to the dangers.
Officials have urged residents to prioritise safety as extreme weather intensifies across the region.
The North Queensland floods crisis has turned deadly with a woman losing her life when a rescue boat flipped. Dozens of people have been saved from rising floodwaters, with some areas receiving nearly 300mm of rain in just five hours. @rosannakingsun #7NEWS pic.twitter.com/5vOwAmPqJb

Seems to happen quite a lot in Queensland. Sorry for the local people.
“The Lucky Country’?
Maybe not, with the tyrants in power…’The Great Dry’, bushfires, floods…cyclones…various stamp duties, etc.
Talk about ‘divine judgement’,
But unfortunately, good people have to suffer the actions of their so-called ‘leaders’.
We who are not in a position to change things (barring radicalised uprisings, Civil War, etc.) are always ‘Collateral Damage’.
Just ask those who survived Hamburg, Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and recently Palestine, Lebanon and the Donbass.
