World Boxing mandates genetic sex testing, bars Imane Khelif from competing without it

World Boxing news

World Boxing has announced mandatory genetic sex testing for all competitors in its events, stating that Olympic gold medallist Imane Khelif will be barred from participation until “she” undergoes such a test.

The policy, introduced by the executive board under “emergency circumstances,” requires athletes over 18 to undergo PCR tests to detect the Y chromosome and determine eligibility for male or female categories.

The move follows recent controversies over gender eligibility and is aimed at ensuring safety and fairness in women’s combat sports.

Khelif, previously cleared to compete by the IOC despite being disqualified in 2023, has yet to respond to the latest ruling.
