Russian advances in the Donbass have left up to five Ukrainian brigades effectively surrounded in the town of Dmitrov, according to frontline accounts reported by German outlet Bild.

A Ukrainian soldier told the publication that around 1,000 troops are now cut off after Russia seized the nearby stronghold of Krasnoarmeysk, severing key supply routes.

He described the situation as “critical,” saying his unit is relying on drone drops for essential supplies while Russian forces have taken control of nearly every building between Dmitrov and remaining Ukrainian-held territory.

The soldier blamed military commanders for deploying large numbers of troops to the area without protecting crucial access roads.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed Kiev is desperately trying to retake Krasnoarmeysk to relieve the encircled forces, sending in inexperienced units “at any cost.”

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has rejected claims of an encirclement, accusing Moscow of inflating its battlefield gains while renewing calls for Western support.

The area, part of one of the last major urban clusters under partial Ukrainian control in Donbass, has seen months of heavy fighting culminating in Russia’s capture of Krasnoarmeysk earlier this week.

  1. Here’s a solution. Send Winston and Judith back over there with another $53 million. Better still, send them over and give them some guns to fight in the trenches with the lost cause Ukrainians.
I still find it incredulous that NZ has gifted Zelinsky and his crooked cronies with $53 million of our hard earned dollars.
