Western media Iran death toll figures supplied by U.S regime change NGOs – investigation

Western legacy media coverage of Iran’s recent unrest has relied heavily on casualty figures and assessments produced by US-based, US-funded non-governmental organisations, placing them at the centre of the international narrative around the protests.

An investigation by The Grayzone uncovered two Washington-based “far left extremist” groups in particular — the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran and Human Rights Activists in Iran — have become primary sources for death tolls and alleged abuses, despite both acknowledging financial support from the National Endowment for Democracy, a US government-funded organisation created during the Reagan era to promote regime change abroad. Iranian authorities dispute the NGOs’ figures, arguing they undercount casualties among police and security forces and omit widespread violence carried out by rioters.

The prominence of these NGOs has drawn scrutiny as their data has been cited by major US and European outlets with little reference to their funding or ideological affiliations.

According to The Grayzone investigation, NED has publicly credited itself with backing previous Iranian protest movements, while analysts and intelligence-linked organisations have described the current unrest as a potential opening for US or Israeli intervention. Critics argue that by amplifying NGO-produced figures while downplaying documented attacks on public infrastructure and civilians, Western reporting has helped shape a one-sided picture of events in Iran — one that has coincided with increasingly confrontational rhetoric from Washington, including threats of renewed military action against Tehran.

  1. My mantra is always whatever the msm say the opposite is true. They lie about everything. Anyone remember “safe and effective”? Remember thier lies about Trump? Never ever trust them again.

  2. Same with their Ukraine reporting. I have not seen one msm report in 4 yrs when Ukraine kills Russian civilians which happens on a daily basis, but every single Ukraine civilian collateral casualty is front page news

  3. Regime change policies are the ultimate and most deadly form of communism yet so called anti islam anti communust right wingers cheer it on. You cant make this up! If you truly believe in freedom you should be opposed to war imperialism and regime change wherever they occur

    • My father and his brothers, alongside with hundreds of thousand, put their lives on the line to overthrow the “regime” in Nazi Germany… My father survived. His brothers did not. You would likely not be writing this post if all those like them hadn’t joined in fighting against that “regime.”
The concentration of resources in “regime” countries who want to dominate the people and impose their ideologies on others, is on acquiring more and more weapons to sustain their power and control. As a consequence the people are not cared for as a priority. Indeed, they become more and more impoverished while the ruling party members become more and more wealthy. The people’s voices are effectively silenced.
I may be replying to a bot but your view is not that of the people out on the street in Iran or Venezuela. Don’t they deserve their voices to be listened to and to receive help when they are crying out for it? Surely we would want someone to help us if we were under such an oppressive “regime” and non-negotiable ideology and we’re being killed, whatever the numbers, for protesting against such a “regime!”

      • Where are they crying for our help??? Where is the “oppressive regime”??. Have you been to Iran??? And who exactly is impoverishing them?? Maybe the 50,000 illegal sanctions that have been imposed on Iran for decades by the US regime that prevent Iran from taking a full part jn the world economy??? And why are thise sanctions imposed?? Simply because iran wants to be free and independent and not a cuck slave to the US is like our sellout politicians. But no, clowns like you believe the iran regime is at fault. Have you seen the massive crowds supporting the regime? You get your information from the fake western media that tells you the jab is safe and effective, and Jacinda Ardern is an angel. Grow a bloody brain cell! The Iranian regime is no threat to me but brainwashed People like you are because you fall for the propaganda EVERY SINGLE TIME. The images you are seeing on your tv box are pure one sided propaganda. My grandfather also fought in world war 2 and i can tell you he would be saying it is not our business. He would tell you war is a racket and do-gooder clowns like you who want “spread democacy and human rights” (which dont even exist in the west today by the way) make a dangerous situation 100x worse.

        • Our ww2 heroes died so we could “elect” muppets like Keir Starmer, Jacinda Ardern, Anthony Albanese and Chris Luxon. “Democracy” is soooo awesome!

          • You forgot Tony Blair, Sadiq Khan, Lindsay Graham, Bill Clinton, Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates, Ashley Bloomfield, and the list goes on and on. So yeah ‘democracy’ promotes leaders who are really cool and really have the best interests of citizens at heart eh? But ‘those Mullahs are very bad and oppressive’.

      • I suggest you turn off your tele because it is turning you into a zombie. I have been to Iran twice & spent a total of 6 months there 2016/2019. A beautiful country with beautiful, welcoming, friendly people. It does have its problems but so would NZ if it was sanctioned. No sign of the oppression you talk about. Funny that 13,000 people in the UK are arrested each year for posting on social media but in Iran the number is only about 200, despite having 1.5 times the population of the Uk.

      • Sadly misinformed take on the situation. At the moment the United States controls the world monetary system and through that can impose devastating sanctions on countries like Iran and Venezuela, which prevent these countries from earning a fair wage. These countries are effectively debanked and it is not a fair playing field. The US then uses the resulting economic hardship and turmoil that they caused to accuse the sanctioned governments of oppressing their citizens. But, the citizens of Venezuela and Iran are not stupid, like the brainwashed sheep in the west and know well the cause of their problems is Washington, not Khoemeini or Maduro. This is why BRICs and China’s new SWIFT alternative are important. They will allow many countries like Iran to pursue peaceful development outside of the US system. It is also important to note that the US sanction system is illegal under international law and is not part of international law. The US accuses the countries that stand up to it’s bullying of every crime imaginable but it is the Americans who have the worst track record of international law violations of any country, by a country mile.

    • Exactly! MAGA is a cult every bit as dangerous as the left extremists. Both sides fall for the propaganda every time. Everyone knows our “democracy” is fake and rigged but it suddenly becomes the best thing since sliced bread when imposed on islamic or resource rich countries. And what does “democracy” mean for the average Iranian? Nothing except KFC stores on every street corner, rainbow crossings and free gay porn. Oh and they get to vote in a rigged election every 3 years. And what does Trump’s foolish Iran escapade mean for western citizens? It means more public wealth is transfered to the MIC, more censorship and crackdown on dissent, and more displaced islamic immigrants flooding western societies.

      • I agree with you, reluctantly. I was a big Trump supporter as were many of my friends but he has been a huge disappointment. A part of me still hopes he is playing 5D chess. No wonder he was so desperate to get the Nobel Peace Prize in his pocket before embarking on unhinged war mongering.

  4. More lies and propaganda, from the MSM and the stooges, fuelling its dishonesty. It wont work in this instance as Iran is growing increasingly powerful, not to mention vocal, offering insulation from the bullshit. If they havn’t already get nukes, its the one thing that will make the vampires, melt away and look for softer targets.

    • But it can be repeated:
      CIA MOSSAD MI6
      Evil Evil Evil
We have seen their subversion and agitation many times in many sovereign countries.
Thejr old script: divide and conquer.
