About 58% of Australians support banning abortion after 24 weeks or earlier, excluding cases involving serious health risks, disability or sexual assault.
The McCrindle poll, commissioned by pro-life group CitizenGO, surveyed 1,513 adults in late August and early September. It also found 67% supported banning sex-selective abortion up to 24 weeks, which rose to 69% after 24 weeks.
Almost 75% supported equal care for babies born alive following an unsuccessful abortion, while 83% supported requiring providers to check that patients were not coerced into having an abortion.
