Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has withdrawn his children’s book Billy And The Epic Escape from sale following criticism from First Nation Australians.
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Corporation condemned a subplot about a First Nations girl in foster care, arguing it perpetuated harmful stereotypes and disregarded Indigenous experiences.
Oliver apologised for any offense caused and acknowledged the lack of consultation with First Nation groups before publication.
Penguin Random House also admitted to falling short in its publishing standards.
Oliver, currently in Australia promoting his latest recipe book, has joined other celebrities who have recently ventured into the children’s book market, a trend criticised by traditional children’s authors.
Another woke wally who’s filthy rich.
Self Censoring is never the answer, As the book is no longer available most people will never know if it was problematic in any way or not. On the grounds of complaining about this perhaps everyone of English decent should demand the pulling of Oliver Twist as it paints an unfair Image of a poor British youth.
