British state broadcaster BBC has called in Metropolitan Police detectives to investigate fresh allegations surrounding Strictly Come Dancing, just weeks before the show’s 23rd season begins.

The move follows earlier claims that two stars had openly used cocaine, prompting the broadcaster to appoint an external law firm to conduct an inquiry.

While the details of the latest allegations remain unspecified, a source described the police involvement as a “significant new development” in the BBC’s ongoing crises.

The broadcaster has declined to comment on the active investigation, but the controversy comes after previous complaints of bullying and harassment on the show led to new safeguarding measures.
