In this video US comedian and social commentator Jimmy Dore analyses the controversy that followed Joe Rogan’s interview with Dr. Sanjay Gupta over the former’s use of Ivermectin to treat his COVID-19 infection.
Joe Rogan’s wildly popular Spotify podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ is the number one podcast on that platform, reaching an estimated 200 million people every month.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the self-styled ‘America’s Doctor’, is the resident medical expert on CNN.
Rogan’s use of Ivermectin was roundly criticised by mainstream media, including CNN, with disparaging remarks claiming the medicine was little more than ‘horse de-wormer’.
Ivermectin is an off-patent human medication which was invented by William Campbell and Satoshi Omuri. The pair won the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for its discovery.
Ivermectin is an effective and safe medication, prescribed many billions of times, for the treatment of a range of human illnesses. Animal versions are also available.
The FDA and other national drug agencies have not approved Ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19. However, strong anecdotal evidence exists to support the conclusion that it is a safe and cheap treatment for early COVID-19, and can reduce hospital admissions by up to 60%. It’s a debtate that will no doubt rage for many more months to come. The drug has been freely distributed for COVID-19 treatment in Ecuador, India, Mexico and parts of equatorial Africa, with promising results.
