Esaya Neguse, a man with a history of violent offenses, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison after attempting to murder his lawyer, Muhammad Shoaib, in a Glasgow office.
Neguse, who was armed with a kitchen knife, launched a sudden attack on Mr. Shoaib, stabbing him in the chest and leaving him fearing for his life.
The attack, captured on CCTV, ended when Mr. Shoaib’s colleagues intervened, managing to subdue Neguse until police arrived. The court heard how the traumatic incident has left Mr. Shoaib suffering from nightmares and panic attacks.
Neguse, who had previously been released early from a 12-month jail term, admitted to the attempted murder during his trial.
Presiding judge Lord Colbeck noted the premeditated nature of the attack and imposed a strict sentence that includes an additional five years of supervision upon Neguse’s release.
A non-harassment order was also put in place to protect Mr. Shoaib from any future contact with his attacker.
