Tiari Andre Boon-Harris, 24, has been sentenced to five months of home detention for assisting her partner, Dariush Talagi, in evading arrest following a downtown Auckland shooting.
Boon-Harris initially faced charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder but pled guilty to a lesser charge of accessory after the fact to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. She facilitated Talagi’s escape by fleeing the scene on Lime Scooters and arranging an Airbnb safehouse. Despite her actions being considered immature and guided by loyalty, her sentence was reduced due to her previous good character and recent motherhood.
During sentencing Justice Andrew Becroft highlighted Boon-Harris’s role in helping Talagi stay on the run for 105 days after the incident. While Boon-Harris did not drive Talagi away, her involvement in arranging accommodation and providing encouragement was critical. Her lawyer argued for leniency, citing her youth and naivety, but the court deemed a community detention sentence insufficient, opting for home detention instead.
The victim of the fatal shooting, Sione Tuuholoaki, was remembered as a well-loved individual and a hardworking employee.
Lock her up, this is why crime is on the rise, she should be getting way more than a slap on the wrist with a wet lettuce leaf. People need to realize that actions have consequences. My guess would be that the judge was a looney leftist.
