Edda Wakesho, a 21-year old domestic worker from Kenya, has been sentenced for multiple crimes relating to the ‘defilement’ of a 4-year old boy.
Wakesho, who worked in the Kiembeni Estate, filmed the acts and posted them online in paedophile forums for money. The practise is not unknown in Kenya, where domestic servants are paid a pittance and see the videos as a way to gain extra lucrative income.
Magistrate Judge Florence Macharia sentenced Wakesho to life imprisonment, plus an additional 10 years, to be served concurrently, for filming it.
In explanation, Wakesho said she responded to a Facebook friend request only to discover it was a page for nude and pornographic videos. She supplied the group with material on the promise of being paid lots of money.
Wakesho’s crimes, which were committed over a period of six months in 2021, were only discovered when an anonymous caller sent the victim’s mother videos and photos of her son’s abuse at the hands of his nanny.
