Footage of the arrest has attracted significant interest, and criticism, online.
Leeds police have come under fire for their handling of the arrest of a 16-year-old girl in her home.
The as yet unidentified teenager was barricaded in her home as a group of policemen and women tried to arrest her. The girl’s family claim the incident was sparked off when the girl told a police woman she ‘looked like her grandma who is lesbian.’ Police considered the comment homophobic, but the family insisted it was not and that she was merely speaking the truth. The mother can be heard saying, ‘She ‘aint done nothing wrong,’ throughout the video.
The girl in a highly distressed state sits in an alcove in the family home as police try to coax her out. At times she can be heard banging her head on the wall. She eventually accompanies police outside but falls onto the ground as she is manhandled.
The mother wrote:
‘My daughter told me the police officer looked like her nana who is a lesbian. The officer obviously took it the wrong way and said it was a homophobic comment (it wasn’t!..). The officer then entered my home and assaulted me. My daughter was having panic attacks after being touched by them, and they still continued to manhandle her.’
The family’s concerns were ignored, with one officer telling the mother that ‘she didn’t care. I’ve got units coming tonight, she’s going to be arrested.’
Reaction online condemned the actions of police as an over-reaction. Fox News Australia commentator Rita Panahi labelled police actions ‘shameful bull****’.
West Yorkshire Police are yet to comment on the incident.
UK 🇬🇧, this may be one of the most uncomfortable videos I've had to watch. This is what hate speech legislation that prioritises certain groups over others, looks like in action, poor child 😢 @HMcEntee #binthebill pic.twitter.com/u7B54r7BJ0

Ah yes, crackdown on those easy targets with a vengeance. Tens of officers in a show of force against one terrified little girl cowering in her bedroom. Elsewhere in the UK they’re arresting people for standing quietly in silent prayer outside abortion clinics. Literally thought-crime.
Jesus 🤦🏼
Meanwhile robbery, rape, murder and grooming gangs carry on at full speed.
Same sh!tty attitude down here in our little corner of the world.
Remember how they all behaved during the lockdowns and the protests? Remember baby Will’s hospital room that night?
It’s terrifying how deep into cruelty and violence some people can plunge themselves once the government’s given permission, once it’s nice and officially sanctioned.
Police are NOT your friend. Don’t talk to them, don’t try to assist them, even if you’re 100% innocent. Nothing said or done without a lawyer present.
What are these police orifices? Braindead? Animals? Bullies? Scum?
